Love Carmarthen – Privacy Policy

Welcome to Love Carmarthen (“we”, “our”, or “us”). This Privacy Policy explains how the Love Carmarthen mobile application (“the App”) collects, uses, and protects information. The App is operated by Carmarthen Town Council.

By using the Love Carmarthen App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Do NOT Collect

The Love Carmarthen App:

  • does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII)
  • does not require you to create an account
  • does not track your behaviour
  • does not use analytics or advertising SDKs
  • does not share data with third parties for marketing or profiling

You can use the App without providing any personal details.

2. Information We Collect

The App only collects minimal, non-personal information required for it to function properly.

a) Event Data from LoveCarmarthen.com

The App displays public event information from lovecarmarthen.com, including:

  • event titles and descriptions
  • dates and times
  • locations
  • images

This information is publicly available on the website and is not personal to you.

b) Anonymous Device Information

To help us ensure the App works correctly on different devices, we may collect anonymous information such as:

  • device type
  • operating system version

This information is used only to optimise performance and is not linked to your identity.

c) Local Cache Data

The App stores event data locally on your device to enable offline viewing.

  • This cached data stays on your device
  • It is never sent to our servers
  • It is removed if you uninstall the App or clear the app data on your device

3. Permissions We Request

The App only requests permissions when you use specific features. You can choose to deny these permissions; the rest of the App will still work.

a) Location Permission

  • When requested: Only when you tap “Get Directions”
  • Purpose: To provide directions from your current location to an event venue using Apple Maps (or your device’s default maps app)
  • What we access: Your approximate location at that moment
  • What we store: Nothing — your location is sent directly to the maps app and is not stored by us

If you deny this permission, you can still view events, but you won’t be able to get automatic directions from your current location.

b) Calendar Permission

  • When requested: Only when you tap “Add to Calendar”
  • Purpose: To add event details (such as date, time, and title) to your device’s calendar app
  • What we access: Write-only access to add the selected event to your calendar
  • What we store: Nothing — event details are saved directly to your device’s calendar app and not stored by us

The App does not read your existing calendar entries.

4. How We Use Information

The limited information we access is used solely to:

  • display event information from lovecarmarthen.com
  • cache event data locally for offline viewing
  • provide directions to event venues via your maps app
  • add events to your device’s calendar when you request it
  • ensure the App runs smoothly across different devices

We do not use any data for advertising, analytics, tracking, or profiling.

5. Data Storage and Security

Local Storage

  • Event data is cached locally on your device
  • No personal data is stored in the cloud or on our servers
  • All cached event data is removed when you uninstall the App or clear app data

No External Transmission of Personal Data

  • We do not transmit personal information to third parties
  • The App fetches event data from lovecarmarthen.com via the public WordPress API
  • Location data is shared only with your maps app when you request directions
  • Calendar data is stored only in your device’s calendar app

Secure Communication

  • All communication between the App and lovecarmarthen.com uses HTTPS encryption
  • No user accounts or passwords are required

6. Third-Party Services

The App interacts with the following services:

WordPress API (lovecarmarthen.com)

  • Purpose: To fetch public event information
  • Data shared by you: None

  • Purpose: To provide directions to event venues
  • Data shared: Your location, but only at the time you request directions

  • Data shared: Event details (title, date, time, location) stored locally in your calendar

7. Children’s Privacy

The Love Carmarthen App is family-friendly and rated suitable for all ages.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 – or from any user – because the App does not collect personal data at all.

Children can safely use the App without providing any personal details.

8. Your Rights

Because we do not collect personal data, your rights are straightforward:

  • Access: You can view all event data directly in the App
  • Delete: You can delete all cached data by uninstalling the App or clearing app data in your device settings
  • Opt-Out: You may deny or revoke location and calendar permissions at any time in your device’s settings
  • Contact: You can contact us at any time with questions about this policy

9. Data Retention

  • Cached event data: Stored locally on your device until you delete the App or clear app data
  • Location data: Not stored by us; only used at the time you request directions
  • Calendar data: Stored only in your device’s calendar app and managed by you

We do not maintain any user data on our own systems.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do:

  • We will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page
  • We may publish the updated version on lovecarmarthen.com or within the App
  • Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised Privacy Policy.

  • All event data displayed is retrieved from a public website (lovecarmarthen.com)
  • Permissions (Location and Calendar) are used only when you request specific actions, and no data is transmitted to us or stored on external servers
